Research Assistant


Jiwon Kim (she/her) is a research assistant at the HERB Lab at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). She has been working with Prof. Nancy Ma and fellow researchers on projects focused on developing ventilation strategies to enhance building energy efficiency and improve occupants’ sleep health. Her research interests, in general, include building energy optimization, net-zero energy design, natural ventilation, passive cooling, thermal comfort, and indoor environmental quality.
Jiwon is currently pursuing an M.S. in Building Performance & Diagnostics at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). Her research focuses on enhancing building energy performance and occupants’ thermal comfort through passive ventilation and cooling strategies. She also works as a research assistant at the Center for Building Performance and Diagnostics (CBPD) at CMU, under the supervision of Prof. Vivian Loftness.
She holds an M.Des in Interior Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design and a BFA in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design.
